I know we've been over this, but I just saw a commercial for the new Bionicles on CN yesterday. Kinda pissed me off. They're on, what, wave 7? How come they get new toys and not us?

I honestly don't know how Lego can keep this up for so long (and all through '05 judging by Toy Fair).
On the other hand, I have to admit I can't help but buy one of every series they come out with (No point in buying all six of them, they're all the same!!). And that latest wave, the "Toa Hordika" is looking very good...the changes they did from the previous line do anyway.

[glow=red,2,300]i will speak for myself. i like bionicles strictly for the versatile ball socket joints. the possibilites are endless with these guys. they are designed to be no design. no birds, ninjas, monkeys, etc. it's raw imagination. i have'n't even attempted at following the storyline. i'm not into that. the names are more unpronouncable than xevoz, but the building blocks are awesome. take the new big jar of 400 pieces bionicles came out with. whoa, talk about giving stuff away. 20 bucks for 400 pieces? that's unheard of. Rukifellth, good research. i didn't know this info. thanks.[/glow]

I honestly don't know how Lego can keep this up for so long (and all through '05 judging by Toy Fair). Bionicle's increasingly intricate storyline offers over 20 years of new adventures (according to LEGO). It's too bad Xevoz won't enjoy such a long and successful run.
Yeah, the Toa Hordika are pretty nifty, as are the Visorak that were recently released in the UK.
Oh, and you're welcome, rupert. Being a fan of almost everything LEGO-related, I'm always happy to provide some insight.

That's what everybody praises Stikfas for, too. But personally, that where I think they both fail. I _like_ a little bit of thinking behind my toys.
Granted, a fresh canvas like the Stikfas approach has its place, as does a predigested licence approach like Justice League. But what I've always liked about Xevoz is that it straddles that line. It uses design in a way that suggests possibilities, but still allows imagination to take the lead.
Stikfas: You do the thinking. A blank slate. It is what it is. Justice League: We do the thinking. Watch the show. It is what it is. Xevoz: Do as much thinking as you want, we'll take over from there. It is what it isn't.

Bionicles are only on their 7th wave in 4 years?? All I have to say is wow. While Xevoz won't see any waves past four, they got those four out in a little over a year. If they would have kept going at this pace we woulda had 15-16 waves in the same time LEGO got out their 7 waves for Bionicles.. 16 waves *drool*
I guess LEGO likes to take their time. I think that pace is pretty slow in all honesty though. Two waves per year is a long time to wait imo, especially when a wave is comprised of really only one new design that has 6 different color variations of it
Anyways, I totally agree with Lobstermans post. Stikfas just seem too generic for my tase. Other lines have exact figures and stories put in place for you. With Xevoz though, you got some fairly generic stories and looking characters, but at the same time they are different enough from one another. I also love Xevoz designs, where as I really don't so much with Stikfas, and especially Bionicles.[/b]

IMO, putting out more than 2 waves a year would have killed Bionicle a long time ago. They're [almost] all the same, even from wave to wave. So offering like 3 or 4 waves of very similar products wouldn't have done well I think. Xevoz is different. Not one fig looks the same (save for the Value packs and Tomb Wraith) So it's much easier to buy them all. You get something new every time. Until you start buying multiples, but that's another story

Probably so. I just think how long it has been since wave three's release and it seems like forever. It's been about what, 8 months now since they first started appearing? I can't imagine having to wait that long on a line that is going strong, seems like they would lose fan interest. Then again, they probably get new info to tide them over where as we have not got anything. And, the wave 4 pics we've seen have been in circulation some time, even before wave 3 was released.
You are totally right about Xevoz though. Their designs and characters are so diverse they probably coulda got away with 5 waves per year if the line woulda been stronger and they really wanted to. I know I came into the game a month or two before waves 3 release, and had been playing catch up till about late Novemeber of last year. Now though, I wish we were getting more waves on a steady bases, they couldn't come out fast enough imo. With 8 races too, you have so many options, it isn't even funny. I got about 100 deas for figures I would love to see, that right there is about 4 years worth of waves ;D[/b]

In the time we were waiting for a new wave, how many extras of each current kit did we run out and buy to "feed the need" that we might not have bought if there had been new stuff on the shelf?...

Bionicle may only be on it's 7th wave, but you have to rember each wave has Toa's, and then the bad guys (Bohrok, rahkshi etc.) and then there's all the bigger sets. Like the Rahi, and Takanuva, and Toa likhan. Then all the little sets like the matoran. LEGO is really good about realising sets in several different price ranges for each line/wave. Then there's all the clothes, backpacks, pencil sets etc.

I'd rather have 4 waves of Xevoz than 40 waves of Bionicle. To me, Xevoz was by far the superior concept. I'd have given a nut for some Xevoz products with the huge price points and part counts some their products recieved. I also wish Xevoz had the same comperate determination to making it an success and creative marketing behind it that Bionicle got.

I have collected bionicles but i stoped and went to xevoz. And the new ones look like they are premature when they were born, one arm is like pc's upper mechanic arm that is bent (ya no) and thats it while the other one looks awesome and you can MOVE it not like the other one. I no this bc I gave 2 to a "friend". And if memory serves: toa, little toa leaders, toa villagers, bohrok, bohrok elites,vo-rahk(tiny),toa nuva, rahkshi, makuta and the light element, toa metru, vakshi?, the 2 dudes and the dude wit the bird, tiny rakshi, and then hordika thats like the 14th wave or wut?
