yakkotank, I have an army of Primes myself, and I never get tired of his trademark color scheme. Besides, the yellow isn't very innovative in terms of sprucing up Prime's colors. What's been added is just enough to slightly disrupt an otherwise cohesive selection of colors. Still, if they were to give Optimus an alternate palette in which the choices were more complimentary of each other, it wouldn't bother me. All I ask is that the colors work well together, as was the case with Cybertron Starscream. (In my profession, red + blue + yellow generally = NO, so I'm probably not the easiest person to please.) I simply don't care for color schemes that look as if some colorblind retard crapped them out... although Classics Prime isn't quite THAT bad. As for the Costco exclusive, it looks like a... well, a Costco exclusive. Seriously though, in my eyes, no color scheme can help that design, particularly the super mode. IMO, it's not THE worst Prime ever, but it's definitely in the lower ranks. Bleighdzes, as soon as I have some time to spare, I'll try to get a Photoshopped version of how I intend to repaint Prime put together. Basically, all I really intend to do is get rid of some of that yellow....

I love tacky and crazy color schemes, so we're polar opposites. Viva la difference!

Ha ha, I don't know if anyone would actually call my preferences taste, but to each their own, right? The cool thing about repaints is that just as surely as someone will hate the piece in question, someone else will absolutely love it.
Like you said, viva la difference!

ok, I just picked up Rodimus and Starscream. Holy snikes those guys are awsome! I would have liked to see the triple tail pipe-arm-gun-thingy on Rodimus' arms, but thats cool. I think not having a current running show to map the toys off of is a great move to let the toy designers just go all out and do what they want.

I picked these today: Bumblebee, Hot Rod (I'm not calling him his matrix form name), Starscream, and Astrotrain. Still haven't seen Optimus or Meggy...
These are pretty nice looking in all modes for the $10 tag. Each had some shortcomings too like bumblebee's lack of any weapon at all, Astrotrain's weak train mode and Starscream's gaping hole in his chest in jet mode. Overall, I think they are a descent value and a series of toys that I will continue to buy if the quality of figures increases amnd they make good choices in updating classic characters to new figures.
While wave one was pretty nice, wave two pictures is what has ultimately persuded me into investing in this line. Jetfire, Grimlock, Mirage and Ramjet look like some the best transformers I have seen in a couple of decades. The only clinker in that bunch looks to be cliffjumper who is just an outright repaint or redeco of Bumblebee even own to the lame rocketpack. I'd much rather have a different head sculpt a few different body details and a pistol for cliffjumper.

Would be nice to see a slight change in the headsculpt, and while I know it would probably be a lot to ask, it would be awesome if Cliffjumper came with that BFG he had in the first or second episode of the G1 series show. You know the one he had on patrol with Hound. Hmmmm, ideas,.. ideas.....

I'll have break out my old Gen 1 DVDs and look at that gun. He needs some thing to differentiate him. The last thing I want is a line of uneeded and crappy straight repaints. There will be some opportunities at that with the seekers and rumble/frenzy.
I have a couple of questions on these if someone knows the answers I'd sure appreciate sharing.
When is the Target two pack with Ultra magnus supposed to come out? Is the price supposed to be $30?
When is wave two due out?
How many waves of these can we expect before they cancel these and move on too those crappy movie toys?
I can see them returning to these at some point becuase these blew out at my target in 2 days time. It's been awhile since I saw transformers product other than some waves of alternators do that. All I know is I really think Hasbro is missing the boat if they close the lid on this series early as I want some more core characters in this style and price point to come out. I'd love some more Dinobots and even a merge group to be nicely done.

I hope to have an answer for you later because I'd like to know myself.

How many waves of these can we expect before they cancel these and move on too those crappy movie toys? 1) It's $20, and the release date (according to TFarchive) is March 2007. 2) Wave 2 is due in mid-November. 3) A complete list of what is coming is at tfarchive.com (great site!). Obviously, there may be more, but this is all that is known. tfarchive.com/toys/checklists/classics.phpSkywarp/Ultra Magnus pics: www.actoys.net/bbs/read.php?tid=133179&keyword=

I won't see him again till Friday, but I'll check with another store today and I might get some news for you. What I have been told thus far however, is that when they release their exclusive store products, they don't re-stock. Now, I don't know how true that is, but one employee there said that this was the case from his experience. He also mentioned that these Target exclusives would release the same time a particular line or wave releases, so I'm slightly betting that if we haven't seen them now, then they might release with Wave 2 or the next wave. Like I said, I'll try to get more details today.

Guess I'll start with the good news first since it segways into the bad news, but it's not that bad. The good news is that I got a hold of the toy guy for the store I went to today and from talking with him, I could tell he was smart about the lines of toys and such. For one, when I mentioned Transformers Classics, there wasn't the dubious eyebrow raise as if to suggest "WTF?", so I was good thus far. I mentioned about the exclusive Target release, which leads to my bad news - While he was aware of the Classics line, he hadn't heard any news about Target exclusives until my mentioning. Although, I guess it's a good thing now, because they at least have some knowledge about the exclusive coming to them sometime in the near future. I'll get with my guy on Friday at my store and see if he can get me some details. Perhaps he can give me a heads up when they come in.

I've managed to snag all of Wave 1 so far, and I have to say that I love 'em all. This is pretty much the way I wanted my Transformers to be when I was a kid. Like you said, Squish, Hasbro would be insane not to continue this line. In my area, I can't remember a TF line that's flown off the shelves this quickly. To think that Classics will give way to the movie toys makes me sick. Also, I'm pretty disappointed in Cliffjumper's lack of a new headsculpt myself. He was always one of my favorite Minibots. When I get mine, I'm going to try to sculpt new head for him, and make certain that the crazy little bastard has his BFG. I too think it sucks that neither he nor Bumblebee have any sort of gun. Friggin' weak! That'll be remedied in both cases....

Guys, the first 2-pack has now hit the stores. It's the Optimus Prime vs. Megatron set. I saw it today at a TRU near my job. I opted not to pick this up at the moment because: a) It was $30, b) I just bought Final Fantasy 3 for the Nintendo DS to occupy some of my time for my Thanksgiving flight, c) Compared to the size of the other classics I've purchased, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, AstroTrain and StarScream are all the same height to these guys in the two pack, if not taller, so it just felt odd. (See for yourself here, here and here.) Plus, it's Optimus in the same classic model that we've seen. The alternate tank-form Megatron ala Armada didn't look too bad and if he were sold seperately I would have probably picked him up, d) They have action features - Optimus has a Twist and Punch feature almost reminiscent of old MOTU figures, which almost made me laugh, or perhaps it was just the way he's positioned in the box, but that's what it looked like. Megatron has something similar, but it's just the blade that he wields in his right hand, e) all of the above. I may reconsider, but not until I see that price come down by $10. The toy comes with a DVD, but I'm not sure what's on it. TRU advertises this item as a 3-pack - I'm wondering if it's a typo or they're including the DVD as part of the 3.
