Well, guess what I picked up during my lunch break. Classics Optimus Prime and Megatron. Picked them up at Wal-Mart at $19 a piece - DANG! I thought Wal-Mart was in roll-back season. Since I'm still at work, I can't provide any pics, but I'll be sure to have some posted tonight. $19 doesn't sound like such a bad price to me. As for Ramjet, he looks very cool IMO. I love that he's not just a repaint. Sadly, the same can't be said for Cliffjumper. If only he had a different head :/

Then we're both cheapskates, B. I think they're great toys, but should Prime really costs more than twice as much as the Deluxes? IMHO, not quite. Also, my Starscream has TWO UPPER RIGHT THIGHS! That kinda pissed all over something I've been waiting months for now. If I can find another one, I'll exchange him. Still....

After seeing the Optimus comparison [with Alt Prime] pic that Bleighdzes posted, I retract my thoughts about $19 being a good price. Prime looks way too small IMO. Judging from the pictures, Megs doesn't seem to be very tall either. :/

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Looking back, these guys are certainly larger than the Hybrid Style Convoy I purchased a few months back, and much cheaper.

One more thing that bugs me...why is it that Prime has many yellow paint apps? It seems that lately, every Optimus figures come out with more and more yellow on them.

The whole deal with the yellow paint applications irks the living crap outta me too, Grayfox. That much yellow just doesn't look right on Prime. He's Optimus Prime, not Optimus Primary, for crying out loud. (Sorry for the horrible pun.) IMO, it makes for a somewhat cheap-looking color scheme. With the exception of maybe Superman's costume, red, yellow, and blue never seem to look very good when combined.
You guys are probably going to think that I repaint every figure I buy, but my Classics Prime and Megs are both getting some work done as soon as time permits....

Hmmm, you know, I never really paid much attention to the yellow color on this guy, but I can understand your point. Quiller, are you able to do a quick-n-dirty photoshop re-paint of Classics Voyager Optimus just to get some vision on how you would like to see him? One other thing I'm noticing - on some toy retail websites, I'm noticing that this Classic line isn't really like a line like Cybertron, or Energon or Armada. There's the Classics Voyager Optimus, there's another Optimus in the classics line in another traditional truck construct (that isn't the same form as the Voyager release) that comes in a two pack with Megatron from what appears to be from the War Within Series: what's the deal with that? It this line more like a 'tribute' line of characters? And why is it that I'm seeing Ultra Magnus released more and more as just a repaint of Optimus rather than how we originally knew him with his extra parts? Masterpiece Ultra Magnus was just a repaint. The Ultra Magnus in the Classics Ultra Magnus vs Skywarp 2 pack - repaint.

Traditionalists - bah! I've got lots of Optimus Primes, and the blue/red color scheme is boring after a while. I bet you wouldn't like this version either: www.tfu.info/2004/Autobot/CostcoPrime/optimusprime.htmBleighdzes: Classics is more of a filler line until the movie toys come out in the spring. Why multiple Optimus Primes? They sell very well. The two-packs: I think that the Megatron/Optimus two pack is actually more of a G2 homage. The UM/Skywarp one's a Target exclusive for $20, which is a nice deal. Poor old Ultra Magnus has been a repaint-only since Armada. It's a simple and cheap way for Hasbro to reuse the Prime molds.

I stopped over at the Wal-Mart near my job during my lunch break and found the classics practically littered on the store shelves. They're getting out there for certain! Haven't seen Jetfire or Grimlock yet, but Seibertron is saying that there have been sightings, so it shouldn't be too long.

Seeing as how the stores here are *really* up to date with the Cybertron figures, maybe I'll see Classics on the pegs before long. I hope I will.
Side note..where I live, the distribution of TF toys used to be very, very lame. Entire waves not showing up in stores and the likes. Lately however, everything is so up to date I'm amazed by it lol. For example, two days ago I read a post on a TF website saying the latest Cybertron deluxe wave had been sighted in Canada. Well, I went to the store today and guess what, all the figures were right there on the pegs! I guess the stores realized that in other to sell TF toys, you need to actually have the toys available.

Hasbro is getting more creative with these transformations of these characters - They need to figure a way to have his "extra" parts perhaps flip out from inside of him. At the very least, use a different head mold that's more reminscient of the classic UM. If people can make customs that are more like G1, why can't they? Example: MP-02 Custom

Best Transformers line since G-1 and it's a short timer? But it's fulfilling its purpose - it's meant to draw old fans back into the fold in time for the movie. BAM! In all truth, this has been a line 15 years in the making. Ever since Beast Wars, fans have been clamoring for a line featuring new versions of G1 characters.
