I bought the Getter 1. I like it, it doesn't seem as possible as some of the other ones, unless i missed an articulation point. Plus his axe was missing. I love the 2 part base though! Makes for some cool flying/jumping poses.

What's with that one extra hand that looks like it's holding something blue? I think that white/blue hand is actually an 'accessory' that you use to have Magnus and Prime having a handshake. The white side connects to one arm of Magnus and the blue side to one of Prime's arm. Here's a link to a picture of Prime and Magnus holding hands thanks to that accessory. www.tfw2005.com/boards/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=1390

Guys, I'm a G-1 transformers fan only so can you guys tell me when Ultra-Magnus became nothing more than a prime repaint character? The Maggie I remember was nothing like him except that he had a cabin over engine vehicle mode.

Well, the original Magnus cab was a repainted Prime, as you mention. There were no UMs to speak of until 2001's Robots in Disguise, where he was not a repaint. He was also a jerk, but that's neither here nor there. I believe that the first UM-Prime repaint was Armada "Bendy" Prime into Universe Ultra Magnus. Then, in Japan, Masterpiece Prime was repainted into UM, and Laser Prime was repainted in UM. OTOH, Energon UM was a repaint of Overload (and a nice one at that). www.tfu.info/2004/Autobot/UltraMagnus/ultramagnus.htmSo all told, he's only been a recolored Prime ONCE in the US. And that was for a line of only recolors.

I never had the original G-1 toy, but I thought he resembled the character from the movie and TV show who really looked nothing like Prime in robot mode.

I never had the original G-1 toy, but I thought he resembled the character from the movie and TV show who really looked nothing like Prime in robot mode. You're right, Squish. G1 Magnus had two robot modes, and you're recalling the better known of the two. The trend with Ultra Magnus repaints of late is based on Magnus' standard mode, which was the white Prime clone. He was never shown in the cartoon in that mode, because he was always shown as being combined with his trailer in super mode. It wasn't until Dreamwave's "War and Peace" TF mini-series that a story actually showed G1 Magnus in his standard mode. While I do like the repaint from the Magnus vs. Skywarp two-pack, I definitely would have preferred an updated Magnus in super-mode. I'm hoping that he might still pop up in Classics before the line runs its course.

I'm with Squish on this. I really appreciated the old Original UM from yester-years and I always will. However, I decided to appreciate the story that Quiller mentioned to put an end to which form is more correct than the other and to just accept both. I read about this on Wikipedia a while ago to get an understanding and help bridge the two robot modes together. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_Magnus

Man, with all due respect guys that dreamwave story just doesn't depict a true G-1 classic interpretation of Magnus unless you were a kid who lost all his cool toys accessories. If anything the comics guys took the cheap route to sell prime repaints a stripped down version for Hasbro. I myself have no issue with this Magnus repaint in revoltech, but in the Classics it's a shame due to Hasbro's cheap ways IMO. They could have just made Skywarp the exclusive. Magnus should have had the extra parts to make him like the G-1 superbot mode we all remember and been made separately if not cost effective in the Target two pack. As much as I like classics, I knew eventually they were going to cut a lot of corners in typical Hasbro cheapassed style and give us straight repaints on characters that would have been 100% better with a little extra tooling and a few needed pack-ins.
Examples...
Cliffjumper needs a new head sculpt, not bumblebees. Get rid of that lame rocket pack/jet ski trailer this time and give us a weapon for him at least for goodness sakes.
Grimlock gets no sword? That's not classic...
The fan favorite Devastator is a just crappy looking energon repaint of 5 figures some of which aren't even lime green and he doesn't even have fists? Lame and cheap, not a good combo.
Starscream would have been lightyears better with a little snap in piece to fill that big ugly underside void in vehicle mode.
Not needed, but boy wouldn't it have been cool to have a variant invisible mode mirage? Would it have killed them to given him a single missle launcher accessory?
A Goldbug head and paint variant for bumblebee would have been nice too.

SS, you make some pretty good points. But I think Hasbro made clear that the Classic line was a filler line until the movie figures are made available. That's why we're seeing a lame energon combiner repaint, a non-remolded head Cliffjumper, etc. I'm not too surprised myself, since I've been going with what Hasbro told everyone. It's a filler line. IMO, you can't expect a company to invest too much time and effort to go the extra mile for a filler line. I think the Classic figures are selling relatively well, so maybe Hasbro will wake up and decide to continue the line and give us more cool stuff in the future. One can hope, right?
P.S. Doesn't Grimlock come with some sort of blade attached to his gun? I figured that was his sword. I might be wrong though.

He has a bayonet on his cannon thing, but it's not really a sword at all.
Yeah, that sounds about like Hasbro... your best idea in years for transformers and you make it a short run filler line that you cut corners on. No wonder they haven't had a original boys toys idea for a hit property since the 80s.
