If you haven't heard by now, Nintendo announced Thursday that their next gen console codenamed Revolution will be officially called Wii (pronounced "weeee"). I think it's a very, very odd name. Though I understand the choice. You can see the announcement here revolution.nintendo.com/I'm curious what you guys think of the new name.

They should have just kept it as the Revolution. It was 100 times better than this "Wii"k crap. I sounds very kiddy and they are supposedly wanting to get away from that image.

they name sounds good in the announcement while i was reading it, but afterwards it just sounds lame. i can't imagine walking into a gameshop and asking where they keep the "wii" games....i like the name "revolution" a lot more. it made it sound like nintendo was taking a stand and reclaiming the video game market and not to mention how revolutionary the controller is. "wii" just comes up short in my mind. if nintendo is trying to lose the "wee little kid" image, the new name is not helping.

I don't care about the name. They could have called it Xbox and I still would have bought it.

All the juicy details were revealed this week!
Launch Date: 11/19/06
Cost: $249.99
Wii Includes: Wii remote (1) Nunchuck attachment (1) AC adapter (1) Audio/video cable, (1) Sensor bar (1) Sensor bar stand (1) Wii console stand (1) Batteries (2) Wii Sports (US only)
Controller: Wii-mote: $39.99 Nunchuk: $19.99 Classic Controller: $19.99 Zapper: Unknown (probably $19.99 as well)
1st Party: $49.99 3rd Party: $49.99-$59.99 (?) Virtual Console: $5-$10
Other News:
Twilight Princess for Gamecube has been pushed back to December 15. The Wii version will still be a launch title for the Wii.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has been pushed back to 2007.
*end news flash*
I speculate that Nintendo will have a Wiimote w/ Nunchuk for $50 bundle. Which puts it at the same price as a 360 controller.

Yep, every gaming website is talking about it. Still, thanks for the info. Nintendo announced the US price, but has anyone seen the Canadian price listed anywhere? I can't seem to find it. I'm betting either CDN $279.99 or CDN $299.99.
Also, I wonder if we'll start seeing Nintendo branded SD cards in stores. I think it's something Nintendo will do.

Nintendo themselves gauranteed that it would sell for less than $250 American. The revealed prices and date back that up so I'm happy. I just wished some of the titles my kids and I wanted the most were launch titles.
