I wouldn't be surprised if this last movie is simply footage of him rolling around in piles of money, and then urinating on a twelve inch Boba Fett figure, saying 'You do not understand the power of the dark side'... The picture you paint so vividly is the funniest thing I've read all morning. Meanwhile, my gripes with the prequels mirror your own. Most people already dislike him now. Man, I friggin' hate the character. . . . but I think Lucas should have just left well enough alone and passed on the prequels in retrospect. Hindsight being 20/20, I agree 100%. Either that, or he should have placed the duties of director in more capable hands. Lucas is capable of cooking up some cool ideas, but unfortunately is prone to fumbling the ball when handling the writing chores, or worse yet, when directing. "Faster and with more emotion" isn't direction.

The only reason I'm going to see this movie is to see if R2-D2 is in the very lat scene in this movie too.

I don't think he'd be. Which is a shame since he is the real hero of star wars.

Lucas is capable of cooking up some cool ideas, but unfortunately is prone to fumbling the ball when handling the writing chores, or worse yet, when directing. "Faster and with more emotion" isn't direction. I've long thought the biggest problem with the prequels has been the lack of an editor. Back when nobody cared about Star Wars, Lucas had to rein in his ideas and focus on the really good ones that told the story fast and effectively -- otherwise they'd put someone else in charge of the project (often to better results: see ESB). Now that he could film a steaming cowpie for three hours, call it something arcane like "Episode VII: The Galactic Crisis," and be assured of a multimillion dollar take, he feels he's above reproach. He's got his own production company and enough money to do anything he wants with no accountability, so every new movie is like a film school art project for him. To answer your question, Randy, the figures are, for the most part garbage. Mediocre sculpts, pitiably low articulation and play value and cheap manufacturing. And shame on us for expecting anything more. For one thing, probably more than half of Hasbro's budget per figure is spent on licensing. And even if it's less, why would they bother spending any more than the bare minimum? Once again, the Star Wars brand is so bulletproof, they could just package those steaming cowpies once George was done filming, and the fanboys would still line up at midnight to buy carts full of them. It never ceases to amaze me how poorly they can treat the Star Wars brand and still have it come out shining.

Every now and then they'll be some good stuff out, but it's the higher end stuff, the Gentle Giant bust, the vinly kits and such. But Hasbro . . .even when they do make a decent figure, like the Unleashed series, it's still overpriced.

What I don't get is after the first two prequels people should know that anything released en masse before the movie's premier will be glutting the shelves till after the holidays when it will be available for dirt cheap markdowns. Yet everytime people seem to flock and stress out to find everything and overpay doing it early. If anything, recent Star Wars figures/movie year trend suggests it's the late spring & summer waves this year that will be on short supply and HTF due to the fact that the retailers always overorder the intial waves, can't move them and underorder on the new few offering to compensate.
My oldest son really wants a DV voice changer and a story talking Yoda but he'll get them for his birthday when they'll probably cost $7 - $10 each instead of $30 a pop.

I have to say, some of the new stuff IS pretty cool. Suffice it to say, I won't really be buying very much of it. Not that I don't like Star Wars, but just because I don't have a passion in collecting these toys. What I do like, however, is the new packaging, and I like how they're doing a lot with the figures. The second time around, with Power of the Force, the figures didn't do a damn thing, which is most likely why I just stopped getting them.
Does anyone know about the rarities of certain figures, however? Like, what are the short-packed figs, if any, etc, etc. I would love to pick up a Royal Guard, since it's one of my favorite characters, but it's been tough to find him.
However, what I will say is that I just picked up an Unleashed Clone Trooper. At first I didn't like these guys at all, but after playing Star Wars Battlefront religiously for the past week, I've grown VERY fond of them, and I love the design of the Unleashed figure. I plan on buying more Unleashed figs, but not really collecting them. I just want a few of them to adorn various locations in my house. But just for curiosity sake, does anyone have a good resource to see all of the various figs and/or lines from Unleashed?

I've always been fond of the Action Fleet vehicles myself. I guess I like the smaller scale, and the fact that they created vehicles from the larger universe, such as the tie defender, e-wing, and virago. Anybody know if they plan on continuing them? I haven't been able to find any info.

I used to really like the Micro Machines ships Galoob put out a while back. I wish I could look forward to a Jedi starfighter on that scale to add to my collection...

The early potf series had their share of losers--I remember the first Leia they released looked like Anthony Keidis from the Red Hot Chile Peppers--but my Hammerhead and Zuckuss figures look MUCH better than some of these newer offerings. But, like everyone says--after Xevoz, there's just no accepting the rigid, 5-point-articulated figures of yesteryear.

I wasn't aware that they had released a TIE Defender or an E-wing until I saw them on ebay for 200 bucks a pop..

Ming...to answer your questions
First off, if you want to start buying Unleashed, good luck! The new ones are easy to find, but older releases are impossible to find cheap. Some of them (Yoda, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Unmasked Vader, etc) are selling for crazy cash on ebay! Besides the 3 new ones, the only ones I still see at retail are Chewbacca, Count Dooku, Mace Windu, and the occaisonal Clonetrooper. The rest are long gone and rising in price...now is not a good time to jump onto that line! I was actually gonna start picking them up, but the rareity of some key figures, and the price point of $15 for a non-moving toy kept me away. I sold them few Unleashed I had a few weeks ago.
As for the rareity of the new stuff. The 12" General Grievous seems to be tough. I have only seen 2 of them (one of which I bought) and he is 1 per case.
As for the 3 3/4" figs...the Royal Guard comes in Red or Blue and both are sorta shortpacked, although I've seen probably 20 of each in my travels in the last week or so.
The Darth Tater is also hard to fidn right now. When I was at TRU the other day, 3 people came up to an employee in like a 5 minute span to ask for it, but they were sold out. I finally found 1 at a KB this week.
A few of the other 3 3/4" are tough to find right now, but mainly because they haven't shipped fully yet. The Clone Commander I heard was a tough one, but I saw 15 of them or more this morning at WalMart, so they'll ALL be plentiful soon enough!
Honestly, in terms of SW, the only stuff that seems to be rising in value is the Unleashed figs...everything else s 'rare' for a short time, but a few months later you can find them on clearance.
