I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that if you are involved in the action figure industry in some form, it's a good idea to stay away from my bad side.
Now, I'm not trying to say that I hold some sort of power over the action figure world. I don't work for any company and no executives care what I say. I do, however, have a 2-0 record against toy-related enemies of mine.
The first was the Art Asylum Club. This pitiful attempt at copying Palisades’ club fizzled from the start, but continued to drag on and steal people's money for over a year. I voiced my displeasure on their forums as often as I could and was banned twice for that exact reason.
RIP the AACC.
Today Southern Island announced they would no longer be selling toys because they want to make toys and feel it would be a conflict of interest. That’s all well and good, but they waited to make this announcement until they had already taken many people’s money for Street Fighter series 2 pre-orders. Now the money has to be refunded and those who were waiting for their pre-orders have to scramble to find the figures they thought they had secured.
I disliked SI because they charged people instantly, even for pre-orders that wouldn’t be out for months! I ordered Street Fighter figures in August and by November they still hadn’t shipped. Not SI’s fault, but not mine either. I canceled and ordered from BigBadToyStore. A month later SI charged me for the Street Fighter figures anyway and shipped them out. What a headache.
RIP Southern Island.
Technically they are still up and running, but after today’s stunt, it will be tough to find customers.
So a word of advice to Hasbro: Make things right with Xevoz. You don’t want to be on my bad side.
