Mecha toys are all sweet, but a little too expensive for my tastes.
Check bigbadtoystore.com They allways have sweet mechs.

Wow man, you are insanely good! I used to make cool stuff with bionicle/lego, but never as cool as this! Love Azriel!

"honor to where honor is due" all those links to awesome mecha designs inspire/ jump start our own imagination. it takes imagination, brain power and a little patience to make something functional and awesome looking mecha. very little original designs are coming out the main stream market. example; gundam seed destiny- all rehashed and boring designs. the saddest thing is that someone approves of these limp desings. I've said it before, but those Lego mechs are so freaking cool I can't believe it. I absolutely love how some of the robots actually have seats so they can be riden. Just awesome! I'd really like to start building my own, but I imagine this hobby must be pretty expensive, with the number of specific parts needed and all

[glow=blue,2,300]start small. there are always legos on sale at the local kaybees, (if one is avaliable.) i bought some for under $4 the other day. get a subrsciption to lego magazine. they sell parts in bulk in that magazine. there are site on the web that specialize in bulk parts.
even think about mixing with bionicles and technics since all these are compatible because they are made by the same company.
and remember that it's not about making something that is already made, make something that's your design; one that you are happy with. [/glow]

OK, won't help you (until they take over your town...) but Walmart throws a bunch of Legos on clearance after Christmas. If you hit it REAL GOOD, they take 70% off the clearance price for a day due to Inventory. Mixed bag cause some are returns. For that price, I risk it.
Other option is Ebay. Look for "Lots". Complete and unopened sets are still steep. Mixed lots can be good stuff that someone doesn't want to throw away and goes for cheap.

Holy crap! How would you even start to do something like that with Legos. Those people must have more brains in there little toe than I have in my hole water head.

machine man is right. a large part of it is design, but if you build on the digital program lego makes, you can make some amazing mechs with some effort. a lot of it is just having the determination to get all necesary parts (which im not willing to do )
