I've had a number of favorites over the decades. As kid back in the 60s, we were all big into the original Flair pen felt-tip markers (Schultz drew Peanuts with a Flair pen). But I did most of my early artwork in colored pencils. I've used just about everything that's come down the pike since then. I really like the Pilot Precise gel pens, too. Oddly enough, lately I find myself using a black Sharpie Extra Fine point more than anything else.

I used to use koh-i-nor rapidograph pens, but sadly enough the finest pen broke (not me) and some got lost (some of them may be me) and my father took the rest :/ Sucks. So damn expensive, that's why I haven't bought more. So far I'm just testing out new ones. Sharpies don't cut well with me.
For writing I have pens that my mum bought a case of. No idea what they are, but they're wonderfuly smooth. Not ball point though. Free-flow! Makes signatures look nice and clean.

I too tend to stick to fine tip Sharpies.

[glow=red,2,300]i don;t believe the price tag has to do anything with how it handles. i have tried the expensive stuff, but it feels too bulky. that's what i don;t get. why the thickness? it should be easy to grip and the ink should move with ease. thats just me. i tried sharpies, but the tip feels rough when i write. almost as if i were writing on cardboard paper. i tried loking for other newer inky pens, but the selection is slim. i wish walmart would have some samle pens with a chain like at the bank, that way we can test what the newest stuff write like. [going to email walmart customer service.][/glow]

All these so-called ergonomic designs strike me as simply over-engineered. However, oen of the things I don't like about some of the gel-pens and especially the newer roller-ball pens is that they're too free-flowing, and write too smoothly for my taste. It probably goes back to my early days as mainly a pencil artist, but I prefer a little resistance in the tip of my pens. When I was in high school, many moons ago, there was a girl in my art class who worked strictly with plain old Bic medium ball points, in blue. She did some of the most beautiful drawings I've ever seen - mostly horses and other "girl stuff", but her command of that one instrument was amazing. Even the art teacher said so, and he'd been there over 20 years.

I also go with the pilot precise myself, except I opt for the rubber grip .5 version. No specific or preferred color really. I mainly use it becuase I like nice and thin lines, which with other pens I don't quite get the desired result due to the way I hold the pen I guess? They come out really thick and fat looking with most. I use to use uni-ball visions .5, but then I discovered the pilot lines are slightly thinner.
What a weird topic btw. Next topic up, what toilet paper brand do you use![/b]

I don't really care about pens. I'll use anything that writes. The only pens I just hate are those cheapo ball points bics that stall out and leave you writing nothing until you free up the ink again. I hate eraseable pens too. Being left handed the ink dries slowly and it tends to smudge on the side of my hand and makes a mess of my hand and paperwork.

Yeah, but you get to touch the pen anytime you want. Yeah. . .that's another reason. . .If this wasn't a childrens board I'd post one of those pens where if you turn it upside down the lady's cloathes come off, any one know what the hell I'm talking about? ~GS

I have been drawing since before I could walk, and have always been very picky with pens, though not necessarily very high class. As a kid, I favored papermate 'write bros' and bic 'stic' implements. Always, ALWAYS black ink. I write very fast, so I need a fast drying ink. I also like those pens rupert likes, but I find them difficult to do light shading with--but then, that's the point of those pens--an even flow of ink...

Now I have no idea where she went to. Oh well, plenty-o-fish in the sea, or the pen store, as they say.
