Yeah, I said it. F-ing Microsoft. I had, sorry, Have a problem with my 360. A few weeks ago it was making a buzzing sound when I played a game. Turns out the lens is vibrating too much and hitting the game disc. Scratched my Oblivion disc something fierce to the "disc is unreadable" point. After a long talk with the phone rep they said send it to the Texas shop for repairs. Luckily my friend's sister works at UPS so we got it next day aired for free, only plus.Got it back and hooked it up, even borrowed Lost Planet to play. Started buzzing worse, WORSE than before. So I put Oblivion in which is already ruined. Played for about half an hour with the buzzing going from constant to spurts to stopping entirely. As in the game stopped spinning and it said it was unreadable. Looked at the disc and it's F'd up real good now. I'm very mad.
Sorry to all inmates for this ranting. I never posted about this a few weeks ago as to not bring down the board in any negative way. But it's too late to talk to anyone and I just had to vent. Thanks.
Also, what problems have others had. I didn't even have 200 hours on my system when this happened.

The solution - never buy Microsoft hardware. I've never had a problem with any Nintendo hardware since the days of the NES...

Now I agree and disagree there. I've had problems with different Nintendo systems over the years including the NES.

I never had any problems with Nintendo hardware...except for the Wii. Pains me to say this, but it's true. My Wii refused to shut down once of twice. Nothing terrible, but still a malfunction.
About the 360, you should check if your warranty is still good. You have a one year warranty. If it's still good, all your shipping should have been free (paid by Microsoft) and they should've sent you a *new* unit. Not the same one. I know because working in a gamestore, I've dealt with their repairs services a number of times.
On the other hand, if your warranty has expired, they do expect you to pay for shipping and repairs. Yes, REPAIRS. Meaning they should have sent you a unit that WORKS. That was pretty lame on their part. I would call them up asap and let them know what's happening. A customer where I work had to send in his unit 3 times before he finally got one that worked well. Microsoft really should do better.
Up until now, I've found that Nintendo has the best customer service, followed by Sony. Microsoft is a distant third.

Still under warranty, yes. Had to pay for shipping the first time, so they think. They wanted me to pay for shipping there and back. At least my buddy's sister works for UPS so I didn't have to pay for it, but they wanted me to. I'm gonna give'em another call and b......be more forceful this time to get the job done.

From my experience with my 360, don't place it vertically, also (and I had it replaced,) my marvel Ultimates disc got scratched because i left it running idle on pause when I went to lunch for 2 hours. At one point, it wouldn't turn on for... 2 weeks. But then it worked again, also Gears of War will freeze all the time. I suppose keeping it cooled would be good, but hey, I;ve had good times with it.

Another good point, but I didn't have it vertical. Talked to an EB employee at the one me and my buddy frequent and they were saying " If the system is vertical and you have a problem lay it down, if it's laying down and you have a problem you gotta send it in." I thought it was funny but true. Also, my friend has left his on pause for different long spurts and had no problems. His is also a launch system and mine is a year newer than that.

Another guy posted this over at the Asylum.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
"If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........ Twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off

One thing to watch out for: when you have a disc spinning in your machine, do NOT change its position from vertical to horizontal or vice versa. If you do, the disc will get a very weird scratch that most disc repair machines cannot get rid of. That scratch appears as a perfect line going all around the disc at about half an inch of the outer edge. It basically kills your game. Microsoft even talk about it in the instruction booklet. Saying they're not responsible if it happens.

Another good point. But the thing is that's what happened to my Oblivion without moving it at all. That's how bad the lens is hitting the disc. Plus it's even worse since I got it back, they didn't fix anything.

I don't see why they won't fix it again. I mean, I know it's a lot of trouble, you could probably go to court or something I mean they said they would fix it and it, by all acounts is even worse. To bad crucifiction is a major crime

I'll get it fixed. It just sucks to have to wait again. I could be playing right now, but instead it just sits there and taunts me.
