Just wondering whether you guys liked it or not. I loved it--but then I got the midnight showing at the Alamo Drafthouse experience, which included a 'Green Goblin' milkshake, an opportunity to buy a set of Spider-man underoos, one of those giant inflatable trampolines where you wear the velcro suit and stick to the velcro wall like a spider, and lots of other perks.
Anyway, I'm disturbed by what appears to be a fairly negative reception for this movie which, while admittedly not as great as the first 2, is still far better than just about every other superhero franchise, and which successfully completes a trilogy with a better than average movie--something hollywood has almost never done before. What say you?

I still haven't seen it and my 6 year old wants to go. Is it appropriate to bring a younger child because I saw it had a PG-13 rating. What is the stuff in the movie that got that ranking? I'm thinking some cussing and blood or just scary images and hand to hand voilence. My Son saw Batman Begins when it was at the theaters and it didn't give him nightmares so I'm thinking this one shouldn't traumatize him.
BTW - is this the end of the series or are they planning more movies if this one continues to blockbuster?

I liked the movie, and if your son survived Batman Begins, I can't imagine Spiderman 3 will do much to him.
As far as negativity, ehhh. I don't get it. There were some things I didn't really enjoy, some lines that were just a little too cheesy, but overall I thought it was a wonderful movie experience. I'll probably buy it on DVD, but only after I finally buy the first two.

I saw the movie and have mixed feelings about it. The action and the special effects were awesome, but IMO, everything that had to do with the personalities of the characters was a lot less cool (except for Sandman, which I thought was perfect). There were some very cheesy moments and scenes that were too long, stupid and useless. I won't say more so I don't spoil anything.
One thing I really didn't like was the trailers to that movie. If you've seen all the different trailers, then you've pretty much seen the movie. And I hate when this happens. It's still worth purchasing on DVD when it releases, IMO.

Sony has signed on for THREE more Spidey movies, so let's cross our fingers and hope for consistent quality. This cast and crew is at least on board for Spidey 4... R13

In agreement with pretty much everything said, there are two points where they just went ridiculous, but I felt they recovered and concluded those points well. Action scenes awesome and well I really love all the references to key moments in the spider-man comic history, its just a freaking shame then didnt start with Gwen from the first film and built up MJ, and well I think the movie would have been better if Jameson's son the astronaut had brought the you know back from space. still great having spider-man on the big screen live action, so no real complaints... now ghost rider on the other hand.. the movie started out well then went to instant crap, i blame Mark Steven Johnson. He wrote Elektra the movie.. 'nuff said

After what eMummy said about Ghost Rider i was wondering, was it horrible? I never went to see it. It didn't really seemed like a good movie.

I didn't like Ghost rider that much, but one thing's for sure, the special effects were awesome.

Rider not only featured the Penance Stare, but made it an integral part of the movie. That made the movie for me. That, and they actually made a movie about a guy with a flaming skull for a head. Only the Ant-Man movie can top that sort of comic book-ness!
As for Spidey 3, I can understand some of the neutral reviews, but the negative ones oft confuse me. Some said that the villains in this movie were no comparison to Doc Ock -- how? He's cool, granted, but he didn't do anything! He, like, stole some equipment and made a sun machine. Sandman and Venom had a lot more classical villaininess in the newest movie. Doc Ock was pushed too much in the background because of Spidey's power fluctuations.
Then, I read one really bad review that said this movie lacked the humor of the previous ones. Umm... Bruce Cambell? The entire scene of Peter strutting down the street? And, of course, Spidey-sense tingling -- if you know what I mean! Some reviewers are stupid...
I'll admit the dialog just got bad in some parts. Prolly woulda been better if some of the one liners just weren't said it all. Seems like they felt something had to go there but didn't know quite what. I mean, they weren't jokes or anything -- they were just inconsequential lines. I've heard a lot of things about the pacing, too, which you think woulda been planned a li'l better for a movie that went over two hours. While I'm glad they didn't hold off Venom until the sequel, they may have been able to do more with him then. Maximum Carnage, anyone?
However, it had Venom, and I love Venom, so.... that was enough for me to overlook any flaws. It was very comicy and didn't do the usual movie-adaptation thing of changing a lot of the stuff from the comics. No Secret Wars for Spidey to get the black suit, granted, but I don't think even the most hardcore nerd was expecting to see that.
Yeah, PG-13 is a stupid rating. PG split into two different ratings years ago, and now PG-13 is just as ambiguous and worthless. Some PG-13s can have sex and F-bombs, and then others are like Spidey and feature... what? Fight scenes? Guns? People made of sand? I can find nothing objectionable about this movie. Venom doesn't even eat any brains in it.
And, of course, MJ is a blonde died red, and Gwen Stacey is played by a red head bleached blonde. Sense much? To make things worse, they even made Gwen a model, which is what MJ is supposed to be! Entirely backwards!

I'm glad they finally put Venom in the spiderman movies. I was beginning to get worried he might not be featured. I was looking forwards to more spiderman movies but Sony only signed up for three. However, if they do make a fourth movie it should definitely have Carnage. Maybe Toxin as well.

I'm pretty sure we'll never get a 'maximum carnage' type of spidey movie. They'd have to mess up the story so much to adapt it, I don't dare imagine how it would come out. And also, I think they'd lose the interest of many casual movie goers if they made an entire movie about symbiotes. Cause us people love'em, but I'm sure there are many, many people out there not familiar enough with the spidey universe that went "wtf is that black goo? wait, it swallows a guy and now it's a gooey, evil spider-man?"
So, as much as I'd love to see a mature rated live-action spidey movie featuring Carnage and a lot of blood and gore (hey, it's not carnage if they're no violence!), I highly doubt that'll ever happen.

Cage and the Rider were cool, but the bad guys were REALLY LAME. This johnson guy has now ruined a third franchise. He's too hollywood, and not much of a visionary, ala Raimi or Ang Lee (even if you hated the Hulk, you have to admit it had style...)

I liked it a bit better than you did but I agree with your comments a great deal. Other than Rider and Devil, what other franchise did Johnson ruin? Also, I really liked the Hulk up until the last 5 minutes. Can't wait for the new one as well as Iron Man.

I thought Ghost Rider was better, but that's not saying much. And I have to admit that even with it's flaws, Daredevil is one of my favorite movies.

He ruined Elektra as well. That was one heck of a bad movie. I thought Ghost Rider was better, but that's not saying much. And I have to admit that even with it's flaws, Daredevil is one of my favorite movies. I think daredevil is one of those movies where one's love of the character can really sway the opinion of the movie--I just thought it was overcut and over edited--it felt like it was a good, 2 hour and 10 minute movie that had been whittled down to 90 minutes by studio hacks. As I've mentioned before, my favorite Marvel hero was always Man-Thing, and I have to face the unfortunate fact that his movie was the most offensively bad thing that that damn Avi Arad ever game the thumbs up for. Poor Manny...
