Nope, never sand the figures, nor do I really do anything whatsoever in preparation... I should probably be using more primer, though. Only time I really affect the plastic is when I want to customize parts as well as repainting them; for instance, my Bone Cutter repaint has hands that I cut down so they're narrow enough to hold smaller weapons, such as his EV-AC. Also, I cut the topknot off my Arctic Ranger's pinhead to paint it as sort of a hooded head, and for my third Razorclaw repaint (brown with black pants (yes, pants) but otherwise not all that different from the original Razorclaw), I cut the belt off of the loincloth part (since I painted a gold belt around his pants; also used stickers more heavily than I have with my other figures, except for the original Sledge Trooper). Don't worry, pics should be on their way soon enough... been busy, with work, getting my computer back up to speed, etc.

Could you use the Testors paint markers that I found on a website

Probably; I'd more use paint markers for small detailed areas than the whole figure, though. Of course, the biggest problem I've been having is having the paint run down the figure part being painted and cause it to stick to the newspaper... just requires a little scraping, but some of my figures still have little bits of paper stuck to them, under the paint....

Ok..Ive been seriously considering doing some painting on some of the figures. Do you use a simple brush on primer for the figs or do you use car primer? Ive worked with plastic and metal minatures in the past being an avid Warhammer 40k and fantasy battles player. Testors paints are good ones another good inexpensive brand is Apple Barrel and they have a good color selection, they mix easy and Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby carry both..Michael's might as well.

To the guy who was having trouble with his dried parts sticking to paper: What I did when I did custom GIJoes back in the day was take a twist-tie, of the sort used to hold Transformers in the package, and wrap it around a part that I wasn't worried about, like the ball-joint on an Xevoz, and then hold on to the twist tie while I painted with my other hand. Then you can hang the twist tie from something (I used a piece of line tied between two corners in my room) and let it dry that way. You shouldn't have any problems, EXCEPT if you really drench the toy with paint, then it might pool at the bottom. But if you paint sparingly, it works fine, and you can always go back and paint over the other part once the rest of the piece is dry.
-HX, going to try sculpey'ing a Xevoz one of these days, wanna give one of those Alpha Ranger heads an Afro...
