I really feel badly for this design team.
I had actually taken a break from Sigma Six, but a couple of $3 Fireflys at Target made me check out the old websites and I was saddened to find that there most likely won't be anymore 8" Joes in 2008. That's a shame. These new Joe vs Animal sets look impressive. If this line does end this year I hope they clearance the hell out of those so I can build my own pack of ball-jointed tigers.

And this time it's even more baffling--I mean, it's not like I've seen these things clogging shelves anywhere. The popular ones seem to move very quickly. The wave with Zartan and Stone came and went without me seeing even a single figure! Who, exactly, is sitting on piles of unsold stock at this point? But I did feel nervous at seeing the massive markdowns on Amazon and Hasbrotoyshop (My Targets don't have any).

Funny. I found Sigma 6 joes to be the exact opposite from Xevoz.
OK, same company and devotion to the product but that's where it ends.
Sigma had marketing, a show, 30 plus years of characters to pull from, and a built in fan base.
Xevoz had an unmatched enthusiastic creativity. Characters had to be created from scratch. It was a complete unknown that shined AFTER you took it out of the package. Sigma 6 looked great but suffered from rigor mortis so bad you didn't purchase more.

Oh well... it was good while it lasted. At least most of my favorite characters made it into the S6 style/lineup. (Although I still lament the tragic lack of female figures....)

i never picked up a single sigma 6 figure, just like i never picked up a single hasbro legends figure. i am a small percent of folks who just never liked the packaging and sculpt. maybe the size had to do with it, but it is sad to hear about another line go extinct.
i was more SHOCKED and saddened because Mezco toys no long continued the hellboy line.

Yeah... after I got Abe, I wanted a lot more... I posted on it somewhere here... all the cool figures they could have been making. My alien fell of my shelf, and his freaking arm broke off, i shoved it back in, but i know it could fall out again at any moment...
The Sigma6 cartoon really really sucked. I heard from a friend that the new spider-man and Transformers animated cartoons suck. but I so want the tf animated toys... I never did pick up Helmet Cobra Commander but yeah Baroness and Scarlett would have been nice.
I agree that maybe the attempt to make 12" style poseable soldiers with full assortment of weapons, like the ones you can find in asian toyshops, might have been a put off for kids, but as a collector I thought the scale was great for shelf display! I ended up giving a few to my friends kids, but kept the two fireflies, cobra commander hooded, 2 snakeeyes, duke, heavyduty, stormshadow, long range and kamakura blue. I guess they are refocusing on the 25th line since that gives a bigger nostalgia factor... they didnt give sigma6 a solid show... or maybe kids dont care about that kind of thing anymore. Hasbro needed someone with a Bruce Timm type love of the series to helm the show and write good compelling stories and characters. The figures are very Vinyl styled. I hope that guy(s) doesnt keep getting the shaft on designs.

Cheesy, predictable, boring, and lacking any edge whatsoever, the S6 show was utterly unwatchable for me. Yeah, I know it was a kids' show, but being a kids' show doesn't mean that it had to suck.

yeah, why can't more kids shows be like Avatar? With brilliant and deep character development, fantastic action sequences, and really excellent stories. Season 3 September 21st. I can't freaking wait. Doesn't Hollywood know that they don't have to dumb stuff down for kids. I'm afraid that the new tf animated show is going to suffer the same fate.

Is Avatar broadcast or pay tv? That doesn't help.

Avatar is on Nickelodeon. It really is a fun romp and very well made. Too bad the Mattel toys sucked sour Appa arse. Very rarely can you ever find a show and it's toys both beinging brillant at the same time.

yeah I got both of them, to get the minifigs... but the line was basically marred by the need for play sets... where as the batman line has vehicles to support it. I would have loved an Ba Sing Sei set, and Appa, and well Avatar is awesome. Sorry, if you don't agree you are dead inside as a human being.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Hollywood's plans to redefine Joe?
The new GI Joe movie in the works is going to change it from General Issue Joe to Global Integrated Joint Operations Entity - a global task force.
Maybe Hasbro is getting ready to come out with the alternate action figures to coincide with the movie?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hasbro's plans to move forward with the Joe movie inspired the change from the Sigma 6 "format"...that and the combination of the 25th Anniversary stuff probably worked together to spell doom for the 8" guys. A shame.
