This looks like a big step up for Playmates regarding the POA on these figs. Certainly beats the standard 7 POA (neck, shoulder, shoulder, elbow, elbow, hip, hip) they used to have.

I'll snag the Turtles. I think they'll likely be the best figures we've seen of them to date. The others... well, probably not. I'll probably paint mine too.
Heck, I might even get two sets of the brothers so that I can finally do Mirage-style repaints, which doesn't seem like would require much work at all.

It says they'll be about 6 or 7 inches tall too. Not bad at all if you ask me. Also, getting two sets is a good idea. I'm definitely painting one early Mirage style.

The more I think about it, Grayfox, the more I'm sold on the idea. Paint the eyes white, make the masks red, and you're pretty much set to go. Maybe add a little drybrushing here and there to grim 'n' gritty the boys up a bit, and there's not really anything left to do. Yep, that seals it: I'm definitely doing this. Here's a quick recolor I did in Photoshop just to see how changing the mask color and eyes would affect Don: Of all the TMNT figures released to date, I think the new movie figures will lend themselves to Mirage-style repaints best of all. I just hope they don't get too crazy with the facial expressions for Leo, Raph, and Mike. I really don't want to have to sculpt any new heads....

That's awesome Quiller. yesterday, after posting to this thread, I colored the eyes of that picture all-white (didn't know how to recolor the rest) to get an idea of what it would look like. Yours does an excellent job of showing us how easy it'll be to do. As long as they don't have funny/weird faces like you said. Also, adding a bit of darker green is indeed something I'll do. I still find the plastic green a bit too bright for mutant turtles that live in the sewers.

Thanks, Grayfox. ;D I totally agree with you about the bright green skin color. I've been kicking the skin-tone around off-and-on in my head all day. Do you remember the First Comics TPBs that collected the first number of issues of the Mirage TMNT comics in color? If I remember correctly (it's been a long time since I last looked through them), the greens and browns used in those books gave them an appropriately grungy, sewer-Turtle appearance, without going overboard. If it were possible to pull off a look that mimicked that style, I think the boys would look pretty good. Meanwhile, here's a link with small pics of all four Turtles, Splinter, Casey, and April: previews.diamondcomics.com/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=23&s=132&ai=32999It looks like Mikey's the only Turtle with a goofy expression, but I guess it's not as bad as it could have been.

Thanks much for the link! I hadn't seen what the other characters looked like. Judging from the small pictures, I like Don and Leo the most. Raph seems to have a weird face and Mikey's got the usual funny face. Could've been worst like you said. As for Splinter, he looks a lot like his live movie counterpart IMO. I like it. Ninja April needs to go. I don't like that figure at all. And Casey, well, he looks decent, but the pic is too small for me to judge. About the skin color, here's a drawing that kinda shows the tone I'm thinking of. This drawing is one of my all time favorite tmnt image. They look like they could kick sooo much a$$! hehe

I've said it before, and I'm sayin' it again: I friggin' HATE Playmates Toys. Weak sculpts, lame paint applications, poor articulation, and badly-conceived gimmicks are their specialty. If it looks like a Happy Meal toy, it must be Playmates! In the day and age of lines like Marvel Legends and G.I. Joe: Sigma Six, this third-rate crap just doesn't hack it for me. I realize that kids are their target demographic for this line, but come on. From what I understand, that's basically the case with Sigma Six as well, and look how cool most of those figures are. What I wouldn't give to see a better company produce TMNT figures. It looks like the only figures I'll pick up from this line will be the four basic Turtles themselves. Outside of that, no thanks.
Something tells me that more than a few of these figures shown won't exactly be flying off the pegs....

True! Would be great to see a company like Sota taking a stabb at making TMNT figs. Oh the possibilities. ;D

Absolutely. They'd do an excellent job, no doubt about it.

Just thought I'd show you guys a picture of the four Turtles side by side. Now I'm ready to mod these guys!

I grabbed the set of 4 Turtles, Splinter and the Foot Ninja a week or so ago. Nice toys. I just really wanted a set of Turtles for my display, kind like an updated version of older toys. They fit in well with my updated Transformers, MOTU, and GI Joe lines.
