I really want the Iron Wraith and the game board, but there are no stinkers so far.

Just going back and looking what I've missed so far, post and thread wise.
I like Wave 2, but I think I'll *love* Wave 3. Storm Wing(eagle MetaBeast), Quick Slinger(neo sapien gun slinger), Shield Breaker(another neo sapien?), Carrying Case with Iron Spectre, Transcorcher/Street Punk 2 pack, and the Cryo Katana vs. Bio Mecha Arachnid(can't think of his name now). Also, I'm guessing that the "official" Grim Skull(ie: not the value pack) will be a Wave 3 Booster. And that's just the stuff we've *seen*!!

[glow=aqua,2,300]I think the game board concept is somewhat a stinker from what we've seen so far. The figure included is cool but seriously besides collectors who is going to want shell out $30-35 for this thing? Even among collectors there's very little army building potential at that price point. The battling portion of the game is less than stellar and not much fun unless you have a really short attention span IMO. If these toys are stocked deep I see, I see a huge shelf warmer for retailers unless clearenced priced.

You're not thinking about it from a kids stand point though, kids do have short attention spans so it does work well for them. Also I know at least 2 cases that will get sold at my store...well 4 if you count me. There's 2 brothers that come in every once in a while that are in to Xevoz and there's another kid who comes in trying to talk his mother into buying another Xevoz so he can one up his friend. From a collectors stand point yeah the case sucks but this isn't a line aimed at collectors, it's made for kids, a totally different level of society

[glow=aqua,2,300]Heh, kids have even less disposable income than grown ups do. I really doubt most are going to fritter away $35 on this when given all the other things they can buy with that much dough in their hands. Even kids who have a lot to spend understand value too. If you ask most kids if they rather have this case thing with one figure or a two pack and a few boosters I gaurantee most of them would take the latter.
Heh, I'm sure we'll sell at least 4 at my TRU too. It's the other dozen that I'm afraid that will sit on the shelf like the Titanic on the ocean floor that bother me.

Actually working at TRU has taught me that kids don't spend a lot of their own money. It's rather common to hear things like "well he didn't beat up his brother this week so I'm going to buy him $50 worth of BeyBlade stuff for being good" or one I heard today "she stayed home from school today because she's been sick so we came out to get a toy to make her feel better" about $75 later the woman finally left the store

[glow=aqua,2,300]You work in a TRU with a very upscale clientel. I don't know anyone who trivally buys their kids large dollar amounts of toys for their kids like that. Most people I know spend much less than that outside of the kid's birthday's and holidays. As a Dad of three and knowing we are in a recession I just can't see that being the case with most toy buyers that visit an averagwe TRU.
I still maintain that if anything we've seen has the potential to bomb at retail it's this rather pricey case thingy because...
a. It's too expensive b. There only one figure included c. The game itself boring and the mechanics are somewhat ridiculous d. There's just not enough play value incorperated in it from what I've seen so far.
Anyway, we'll just have to see how it works out. I hope I'm wrong....

Yeah, I'm really not liking this case either. I agree that the game is rather lame. The playing boards seriously seem to favor two species at a time while handicapping all of the others (unless of course you don't care about aesthetics in the least and you're just bashing parts together to make the "ultimate fighter"). I, being an adult with years of board (Risk, Axis and Allies, Risk 2210, etc.), tabletop (everything from D&D to Warhammer 40K), and PC strategy gaming (Warcraft on up), can not fathom how this game could be fun for more than a few minutes (even to someone with a seriously limited attention span). I also find it hard to believe that many people are going to shell out the cash for this thing (also keep in mind that $35 is EE pricing, which is usually like a 20% markup from retail since they are more of a distributor that gives special discounted pricing to re-sellers). All of that being said, I am thoroughly disappointed with Hasbro for this desision. It is the first really bad decision, from a consumer standpoint, that has been made in regards to this line. From a corporate standpoint though it is "brilliant" (I know that I am going to kick myself for saying this publicly). The sales figures on this puppy are going to be high even though collectors (and maybe even a good percentage of kids) hate this case. Assuming that the actual MSRP will be something like $25-$30 it would take the sale of 3 to 4 basic booster figures just to equal 1 sale of a case with figure. Now, that being said, I know that I have personally stayed away from collecting certain lines due to garbage like this, seriously I have. I no longer collect any lines (and I actually haven't for a number of years now) that participate in shortpacking "chase" figures, or make "collector sets" with multiple standard release type figures just to release a rare villian or female character that "would not sell otherwise". Bull puckey, plain and simple, Bull puckey. (Semi-OT momentary rant) This goes so far as saying that well made minority and female figures are not just as capable of selling as male hero characters is IMHO a form of discrimintaion (both sexism and racism), and the claim that villians don't sell (who exactly is Superman supposed to fight, Superman ?!?!?), yeah...right...whatever, fortunately this hasn't been too much of a problem with Hasbro lines, okay back on topic now.... I will say that I also usually don't participate in re-paint variants, but in the case of the Grim Skull and Omega Guard those figures, I feel, were excellent additions to my collection, and I would probably continue to enjoy some well conceived additional re-paint releases (maybe with slightly better part selections in some instances) in the future (I know that the part selections were in part due to what additional parts were on the same sprue trees as the major parts that the designers wanted or needed to include). In summation, I truly hope that this is a one time thing, I will be buying one, and assuming that I can at least e-bay the case I will buy a second one purely for the Iron Specter figure (that is to say that someone at Hasbro does not make the decision to release this figure as a seperate booster also, crosses fingers, knows that it is probably in vain) and that trying to pimp "junk" (it's one thing when it's an awesome figure like the Transcorcher, it's another when it's a lame playing board case thingie) by including an excellent figure with it is only going to be tolerated (i.e. purchased) by collectors AND kids (i.e. parents) to a certain extent. Okay, sorry to be so long winded, those that know me (from other boards) know that I am good at being silent until I have something to say, then composing a well thought comprehensive post, and then going back to being fairly silent again, it's just the way that God has made me . Hence my low post count even though I have been here since day one, and check in multiple times a day. That being said, silence falls again ..... Later all, -Shane

Here's where Hasbro dropped the ball...
They want this stinky case to sell for $30-$35?? They should have included two figures in it...one a Ruinic and the other a Reptosaur. None of us would have been happy with buying the case anyway, but atleast this way, we'd get really new stuff, 2 figures, and Hasbro would have roped us, well me atleast, to buy 3-4 of these things.
Another idea, would be to make the carrying case look like different species homeland environments on the outside, like an incorporated playset. One for each species, and include the "leader" figure for each...the king, a queen insect, the shaman, etc... I'd happily buy one of each of these, and we, as a group would only need to buy one each, because the figures included wouldn't be "army builder" types.
My final idea for Hasbro would be to reward true fans that buy this thing...assumming it is nothing more then a figure and a carrying case. With the UPC off the carrying case and 2 more from any figure(s), Hasbro should have a free mail away exclusive. It should be a totally new figure, not repaint. I'd take a repaint only if the mail away was a two pack. Here would be some examples:
1) Blood red skull jack with silver or gold parts vs. black out mission Alpha ranger
2) A tiger metabeast (razorclaw repaint) vs. a translucent blue shock bezerker in white armor.
3) All clear ninja (shadowblade) vs. a gray/black hemo goblin (this one looks alot like a gargoyle already and appears to be the least costly out of the two pack)
....of course Hasbro probably has plans for similar repaints down the line anyway, so they probably won't want to do this.

[glow=aqua,2,300] Nice posts guys, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like this overpriced case thingy. Maybe you can get something from the case on ebay, Shane. However, I'm betting it won't be much, I just think the the thing has very limited desirability once the Iron Specter is removed. However, I'll let your auction be the guinea pig. If you can nab more than $15 for the thing I'll probably try it too. I really don't need more unwanted toys laying around taking up more room but I must have the Figure so I know I'll be getting at least one.
I think adding some kind of extra incentive for buying the case is an excellent idea, ChrisL! I'm sure any send away figure would probably have to be a repaint to make it cost effective, but a cool repaint like any that you mentioned would make me feel much better about buying the thing.

I love the idea of Species specific cases that could double as play sets...those I would have felt a lot better about buying. I know if it wasn't for Iron Spectre I defiently wouldn't be buying the case at all. I'm having flashbacks of the SW Millennium Falcon case with Wedge Antilles. I wasn't going to get it, I was quite ticked off that it was the only way you could get Wedge. Then of course I saw it and had to have it...then there ended up being variations on the helmet which led to more cases....I think I ended up with 4 or 5 of those freakin things

Here's my opinion...with what little info we have regarding this carrying case, I agree it kinda sucks. But it might be too soon to say it though. For all we know, maybe this case has another purpose than just being what it is right now...
As for who will buy it well, collectors will cause they can spend the money. Kids might not be much interested. BUT if that character is the least kick ass and cool in the show or other media (they'd have to hurry up to show it though), I bet we'll hear a lot of kids begging to get it.

yeah, that's what i'm kinda picking up from everyone too... so i guess i'm alone on this, cause i'm kinda looking forward to it. at least to find out what the deal with it is anyway. the figure itself, i'm down with. but that case, i'm not too sure about... i guess it depends on what that thing really is. if its main use is for the game, then no, i have no use for it. but if it's something that i can throw the extra pieces into, then i guess so...
but the figure alone, i think, would look nice standing with the rest of my unnaturals over there...
